In memory of Aino Pervik, “Arabella, the Pirate’s Daughter” will be screened. The screening is free of charge, but pre-registration is required.

“It was like a lively and joyful celebration,” recalled cinematographer Arvo Iho about the making of “Arabella.” No wonder, when on the same ship you find such a colorful crew of pirates as Endel Pärn, Arvo Kukumägi, Ilmar Tammur, Tõnu Kark… Director Peeter Simm let them run riot with great gusto, so that in the end there is more grotesque than you’d get for a “hoi-ra-ssa” and a bottle of rum. Surely the ship itself would have run aground, if not for the mysterious and somber Captain Taaniel Tina, played by Lembit Peterson!

His captivatingly dark and tragic character, together with the songs by Jaanus Nõgisto and Hando Runnel infused with philosophical undertones, prevent this fantastic adventure from drifting along as a mere children’s film. Instead, they constantly pull it off course, outside the frame – somewhere into that realm “where the pendulum stops and infinity begins…” – turning it into a fairytale for all childlike adults.
