It all starts with a banal adultery. Based on a short story by Haruki Murakami, the theatre actor and director Kafuku drives a bright red Saab, constructs Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" in an unusual way, and seeks an answer to why his wife betrayed him.
The film, which won the Best Screenplay award and the FIPRESCI Prize in Cannes plays with the euphemisms of The Beatles' lyrics, the Murakami twists of action and the spirit of modern Japan. "Drive my Car" won Best International Film Academy Award in 2022.
