After witnessing a Mafia murder, slick saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his long-suffering buddy, Jerry (Jack Lemmon), improvise a quick plan to escape from Chicago with their lives. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for sunny Florida. While Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win the band's sexy singer, Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry finds himself pursued by a real millionaire (Joe E. Brown) as things heat up and the mobsters close in.

The production of “Some Like It Hot” was infamously difficult. Monroe had a reputation of being difficult to work with and she clashed most often with director Billy Wilder (who had the same reputation). Yet it was Wilder who was proudest of Monroe's work: "Anyone can remember lines, but it takes a real artist to come on the set and not know her lines and yet give the performance she did!" The film is considered to be one of the best in film history and in 1989 it was one of the first 25 films to be inducted into the National Film Registry. The film was also nominated for 6 Oscars, winning for Best Costume Design. It also won three Golden Globe awards - Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Jack Lemmon and Best Actress for Monroe.
