Whiplash
Under the direction of a ruthless instructor, a talented young drummer begins to pursue perfection at any cost, even his humanity.
"Whiplash" (2014) is the second film by director Damien Chazelle (La La Land, Babylon) and the first to receive universal acclaim. The story was inspired by Chazelle's own experiences in a highly competitive jazz ensemble during his time at Princeton High School. Because of these experiences, "Whiplash" very skilfully handles topics such as perfectionism, giftedness, success and commitment. The film stars Miles Teller and J. K. Simmons, both of whom received universal praise for their roles, and for which Simmons also received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. In addition, the film received four other Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and won the Academy Award for Best Editing and Best Sound. 12 years after the premiere of ”Whiplash", it has since been assessed as one of the best films of the 2010s, the 21st century, and of all time.
"Whiplash" is the favourite film of cinema worker Art, and is also the one that sparked his interest in film in general. "Whiplash" already left a huge impression on him at the age of 16 and with countless re-watches has made him feel every emotion, from inspiration to tears. "Whiplash" will be screened on the 19th of April as part of Elektriteater's birthday festival.
