Põgenemine Xinjiangist + Ukraina varastatud lapsed
9. aprillil tuleb Tartusse Briti ajakirjanik, dokumentalist ja teadlane Shahida Yakub (Tulaganova), kellel on 20aastane töökogemus BBCs ja Channel 4 ning teiste suurte meediakanalite juures. Ta on paljude rahvusvaheliste auhindade võitja, sealhulgas Rahvusvahelise Dokumentaalfilmide Assotsiatsioonilt (IDA) Courage Under Fire. Shahida on kogenud sõjakorrespondent, kes on töötanud Palestiina aladel, Afganistanis, Ida-Ukrainas (2014), Ukrainas (2022–2023), Süürias, Liibanonis ja Iraagis. Tema film „How to Plan a Revolution“ võitis esikoha Berliini filmifestivalil, „Airport Donetsk“ sai esikoha Läti festivalil Artdocfest.
Shahida tööd on võimalik toetada annetusega. Ürituse piletite eest saadud raha kantakse täies ulatuses heategevusorganisatsioonile Ukrainian Child Rights Network.
NB! Üritus toimub inglise keeles.

Shahida comes to Tartu with her latest works, the first of which is the renowned Ukraine’s Stolen Children (2023), which focuses on returning deported Ukrainian children from the Russian Federation, and the second one is Fleeing Xinjiang (2022), which shows prison camps for minorities in north-western China. The aim of the event is to introduce, through interaction with the audience, Shahida’s work on acute socio-political issues and experience of working in conflict zones. Her films will also be screened during the event to generate an exciting debate.
Shahida continues to seek Ukrainian children to bring them back from the Russian Federation in co-operation with the Ukrainian Child Rights Network. With Shahida’s help, for example, the girls featured in the film were returned, and after filming, together with volunteers, she helped return the orphaned teenager Denis, whom the Russian propaganda machine had been exploiting.
